CryptoPunks

CryptoPunks is one of the first NFT collections on the Ethereum blockchain, launched in June 2017 by Larva Labs. It consists of 10,000 unique 24x24 pixel art images that depict mostly humans, both male and female. The project was created to explore the dynamics of scarcity and demand by releasing an experiment that is contrary to the meek and centralized nature of mainstream collectibles like Pokémon cards. The final design of each 8-bit-style pixel art image was randomly generated using a set of algorithmic templates, inspired by the 1970s' London punk scene and the dystopian grit of cyberpunk. Some are more unique in its type, like zombies, apes, and aliens. Each CryptoPunk can exhibit a combination of 87 unique attributes known as ‘traits’, like glasses, cigarettes, hats, and more. The maximum number of traits a single CryptoPunk can have is seven.Some CryptoPunks have now become part of permanent collections of modern art museums, including the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
